A Special Note from the President of The Johns Hopkins University

[May 2011 Issue]

By President Ronald J. Daniels

With a fantastic trip to the Hopkins-Nanjing Center last fall, a journey across Spain as part of the SAIS International Staff Ride, a whirlwind weekend at the Hopkins Bologna Center, and frequent trips to SAIS’ home here in Washington, I’m lucky to say this has been my “Year of SAIS.” From Washington to Nanjing to Bologna and beyond, SAIS embodies the spirit of our one university. Harnessing expertise between disciplines, among institutions, and across national borders, SAIS is training our future leaders to tackle the 21st century’s most daunting challenges from international climate change to global economic stability.

One only has to look at today’s headlines to realize that a SAIS education – one that deepens cultural understanding, demands intellectual expansiveness, and joins us all in challenging dialogue – remains more vital than ever.
Sincerely,
Ron
